RiseUP Academy (Mangere), Te Kapehu Teina (Whangarei), and Te Kura Maori o Waatea are all Charter Schools catering for school rolls that are predominantly Maori, Pasifika and Decile 1-3 pupils. In fact the contract each of these schools has entered into with the Ministry of Education requires that at least 75% of enrolments need to be ‘Priority Learners’, that is Maori, Pasifika, Decile 1-3.
RiseUp Academy opened in 2014, the other two schools a year later in 2015. Under the terms of the contract these schools have with the Ministry, these schools are targeting 85% of their students being at or above the National Standard by the end of their fourth year of operation.
By any measure this is astonishingly good progress and as can be seen by the National Standards results for Maori and Pasifika nationally this is an ambitious goal that these three schools are well on the way to achieving.
